This week will provide a fresh start on several levels … First of all, a new clue. The clue that has been up the last three weeks still has not been located, so I will try my best to keep tabs that it is still there and hasn’t been snatched and it will be our ‘longstanding’ clue. I’ll continue to mention it as long as possible and hopefully someone down the line will join in who will find it. I think sometimes figuring out things is a matter of finding a new approach.
Second of all, this week’s post is finally in video form again … YAY! It’s about time, right? And just in time for my favorite season, too. Fayetteville is finally experiencing true fall weather and I just love it. The leaves are changing their beautiful colors and I’ve had the windows open a lot over the last few days. Seriously, is there anything better than fall? I think not.
Don’t you just love the screenshots YouTube picks for the videos!
I didn’t think this one was that hard, but we’ll give it another week and if no one finds it, we’ll start a fresh search. I’m still adjusting to how hard to make these clues since they seem easy to me (with me knowing the location and all … ). I’m sure that as things go on, I’ll get a better feel of how to write up the clues.
To help out just a tad, I’m going to give a slight hint and see if that helps out any. Also, I’m opening up a ‘Help Hotline’ so either post questions at the Forum or email me at singleleafphoto.com with questions regarding this week’s clue.
The CLUE IS:
Fayetteville was settled on this one.
P.S. I think that next week, we’ll get the movies up and running again, so be on the lookout if you’ve subscribed to the YouTube channel. I’m sorry for all the delays and inconveniences caused by there not being videos, but sometimes you’re just practically halted on all fronts with software or hardware malfunctions. And remember, I’m a graphic designer but not when it comes to videos or audio, so it’s not exactly my forte. Not to mention my current editing software is not top-of-the-line like my graphic/photo editing software, and we all know that to get quality products, you’ve got to fork over some money. I think that we will get the problem addressed this next week and start posting videos once again. Thanks for being patient and continuing to search.
Okay, here goes … the trouble with the software continues so all the clues will be text-based for a while. I’ve continued to have questions, which inlcude:
1) What are the prizes for finding the clue?
Well, I’ll always have my soap as an option. And in exciting updates, I’ve just started making scented soap, so that should be ready for the holidays and I have some exciting fragrances planned. I’ll also have some other options on hand (right now, it includes a couple of Silver Joes T-Shirts, a Lindt Petits Deserts box of goodies, and a couple of random coffee mugs).
2) Will you let us know where the past clues were hidden in the case that we didn’t find them?
Sorry, but no. It may sound mean, but frankly if I start giving out the answers, you get fresh insight into the way my mind works, which only makes it easier to solve clues in the future and makes it much less interesting to me. However, if after a search is over you figure out where you think the clue was (and the key part here is AFTER it’s over, meaning a new clue has posted), email me at singleleafphoto@gmail.com with the answer and I’ll let you know if you’re right. That sounds like a fair compromise to me.
3) Do I have to go inside buildings to find the clue?
No, so far (unless otherwise noted) all the clues are out in the open on public property, so just keep your eyes peeled.
And I almost forgot. The CLUE IS:
Fayetteville’s settled on this one.
Use the internet, use your brain, and don’t forget to have fun.
So, there has been a delay in the posting of the second clue movie, so I thought I’d go ahead and post it here for you until the video can be posted.
If you find the object (the leaf-shaped drawer pull that is about 2 inches across in size), which by the way is in a ziplock baggie with contact information for me, then email me at singleleafphoto@gmail.com to let me know you found it.
THE CLUE:
Miss Sunshine state reeds it all.
UPDATE: due to continued software troubles, it looks like the video won’t be posted at all … Yipes! Next time, perhaps.
Dealing With Dialup:
For those who would like to participate, but do not have access to internet which will play videos, you’re in luck. I will post a text-based clue shortly after the video airs. It will appear HERE: and I’ll include links to it in the future on the Blog post with the clue video.
For a review of the game and how it works in text format, see this post HERE.
On to other quesions ….
What if you get to a location, you think it is right, but you cannot find a clue?
Email me and let me know. If you had the correct location, there are two options (well, three really) – you didn’t look hard enough or close enough, the clue has been taken by a previous finder (please don’t do this), or the clue has been taken by someone who stumbled upon it and didn’t know what it was …. There are instructions on the envelope to leave it where found, and also lists the website for those curious enough to join in. Still, some people are just not that great at following directions so I could foresee the clue getting swiped.
So, in the case that the clue is not actually where it should be, I can send someone out to check and make sure that it is still there and if it is not, I will know who to forward the clue to (because you emailed to let me know that it was missing). Please let me know if you think you have the right place but cannot find the clue since you could be correct. If you are and the clue is gone, I will give you the next clue.
Also, in order to get the prize, you have to have gone to all three locations. Telling me where you found the clue is sufficient this time, though in the future I may require photos at the location to verify.
It’s HERE …. any questions, e-mail me at singleleafphoto@gmail.com. If anyone wishes to put their minds together to solve these, you can use the Forum for that.
September 19, 2008, the searching begins. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be fun, and you won’t want to miss out, so stay posted for more information.
Clues will be posted here on Friday at least once a month (and exactly when will vary, so make sure to sign up for the RSS feed if you don’t want to miss out), so be on the lookout. I’m going to try doing every Friday for a while to see how that goes and then we may cut back, particularly as the weather gets cold and people want to stay indoors. Why people would want to stay indoors when the temperature gets below 50 degrees is beyond me. I think it is lovely. But oh well. I usually just have to enjoy the out of doors by myself in the winter.
There will also be an occasional mid-week search just to keep everyone on your toes. As the project develops, I am sure changes and alterations will be made, and don’t forget to participate in the Forum as well. The Forum will be an important tool to discuss the hunt, talk about clues, suggest ideas and changes, and to build community.
If you would like to get on a mailing list to receive breaking information, you have three options:
1) Use an RSS feed aggregator to get updates to your web browser home page. If you don’t know what this means, see this post here.
2) Sign up for the Forum and get regular e-mails about posts, clues, and more.
3) E-Mail Katie at singleleafphoto@gmail.com to get an e-mail when new clues are uploaded to the site.
